Iconic Woman of the Month - Dolly Parton

Yep, you heard us right. We freakin' love Dolly Parton.

I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde.

There are many reasons to love the Queen of Country — Her ability to laugh at herself, her unapologetic girlyness, her 75 albums, 8 Grammys, 10 Country Music Awards... and the list goes on.

We wanted to showcase Ms. Parton this month because we grew up on Dolly - Dolly music, Dolly movies, and Dolly jokes... Let's face it, for many of us, Dolly was the definition of womanhood growing up and you know what... We're pretty darn glad she was.

To continue our open love letter to the blonde bombshell, we put together this list of our favorite things about Dolly:

Dolly is Smart

Dr. Dolly

Looks only go so far in this world and Dolly is living proof of that. Her self-made persona can be seen in a Dolly-themed amusement park, water park, in dinner attractions, a record label, production and publishing companies, and thousands of songs penned over four decades. The University of Tennessee also knows just how savvy and smart this bombshell is; they presented Dolly with an honorary doctorate degree after she gave the commencement speech to the graduating class of '09.

Dolly Keeps it Real

Before the female force of icons like Beyonce and Adele, there was Dolly. Dolly paved the way with her fearless performances both on the stage and on the screen. And let's be honest, is there really anything better than singing at the top of your lungs to the anthems of our gender??? Songs like the infamous Jolene are raw yet strong and speak to us from a place that only that feels uniquely female. It just doesn't get more real than writing a record breaking song addressing the woman going after your man.

Dolly is Funny...

Dolly Gets Down

The key to a great sense of humor is having the ability to laugh at yourself and no one does it better than the Rhinestone Rocker. Sure, Dolly looks 100% fake. Everything on Dolly is bigger and badder and, well, synthetic. But we don't love Dolly for her cosmetic enhancements; we love her because she's the first to point them out and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. Whatever negative remarks anyone has to say about her, she's already said about herself. And a great sense of humor will always trumps a horrible sense of style in our book.

Like Really Really Funny. (and so much sass)

And her Music is, Just, Magic

Even if you don't care too much for country music, you've got to love Dolly Parton. She is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in country music history. Here are a few of our favorite Dolly songs:

Who inspires you???

We are all about strong and powerful women but at times it's easy to forget that we are also a part of this group, so we wanted to create a space that we could go to that would remind us and empower us on those days when we need a little help. We decided to create a Pinterest board just for this called Iconic Women. We would love to know who inspires you, so please feel free to collaborate on this board with us. Could be fun, right? Just comment or send us a message and we'll be sure to add you as a collaborator. Here's the board:  #IconicWomen #GirlPower
